Recording Connection student Nicole Thorp, apprentice at Foundry Studios (Tacoma, WA) recently had the chance to test her micing knowledge firsthand thanks to mentor Pierre A Ferguson. “Pierre asked me to help set up mics for the drum kit. I took all the mics we needed out and put them on the stands…I then assisted Pierre with the entire session, going in and also micing up the guitar, bass, setting up the SM7B for vocals, and getting all of the equipment put away after the session was over. It was a real day in the life of an audio engineer and after I left and got in my car I knew this was the career for me, because I enjoyed every second of it.”
