(Chung King’s client list includes such names as Mariah Carey, Kanye West, Aerosmith and Jay Z!) Recently, rap artist Foxy Brown visited the studio for her interview with FUZE and the studio staff tells us LL Cool J is scheduled to record some tracks! Check out photos of the studio here.

Recording Connection Mentor Studio Profile: Serenity West Recording, Hollywood, CA

Serenity Studio AThe west-coast branch of Sanctum Sound (formerly known as “Serenity East“), Serenity West Recording is housed in the historic 5540 Hollywood Building. The landmark structure has played a huge role in the emerging Hollywood film industry dating back to the 1920s. In those days, 5540 Hollywood housed sound stages, studios and executive offices and was frequented by many of the biggest celebrities of the day. In the 1980s, the rooms were converted into recording facilities by a studio known as The Grinder. Serenity West took over in 2005.   Today, the building houses four separate studio rooms with some of the best recording gear available anywhere. Serenity West has continued the Hollywood celebrity legacy of this space, only now the celebrities are more in the realm of music than film. The client list includes names like Justin Bieber, Rihanna, Lil Wayne, Black Eyed Peas, Justin Timberlake, Shakira, John Legend, Smashing Pumpkins, Diddy, Nicki Minaj and many, many others. (By the way—the studio continues to be a favorite filming location, as well.)   The Recording Connection is proud we can send so many of our students to such a prestigious recording studio for their apprenticeships. Serenity West is very supportive of the mission. Cameell Hanna, studio manager and partner says, “This is the best program in the world. The staff at RRF, your curriculums and the way you treat your mentors is very special. I love you guys.” The feeling is mutual.

Announcement
On AirThe Radio Connection partners with top professionals to train our students in real radio facilities across the nation. We’re proud to welcome a new mentor to help train our students: Ron Stafford, radio DJ at WCTR in Chestertown, MD!   WCTR (“The Town”) has been broadcasting on AM 1530 since 1962, and recently also began broadcasting on FM 102.3. The station operates as a local community-oriented broadcaster for Chestertown, as well as Kent and Queen Anne’s Counties in Maryland. Broadcasting in an “oldies” format, the station also programs talk shows, local news, sports, weather and community events, making it a great all-around station for Radio Connection apprentices to learn the ropes.   We’re thrilled to have Ron Stafford mentoring our students, and we look forward to seeing what our apprentices will accomplish under his mentorship. Welcome, Ron!

Apprentices in Action
Kevin PeacockRecording Connection graduate Kevin Peacock recently snagged a freelance gig working as an audio engineer at a new studio in Philadelphia called Help You Studios. Congratulations, Kevin!   Our program builds employable engineers and producers like Kevin.   Timi GrayFilm Connection apprentice Timi Gray recently had the opportunity to assist her mentor George Stover (of Adventure Productions) on a marketing shoot for MedStar Health — a day-long shoot that took them to two different hospitals in Baltimore. “It was such a wonderful experience for me!” she says. “George walked me through each piece of equipment and was very pleasant and patient as usual, as I tried to figure things out on my own once he showed me. I helped with setting up the back drop, lighting, boom, camera, moving furniture around to make room for everything, etc. His wife was there doing makeup, so I got to watch and learn from her as well.”
