Cinespia’s Summer Catalogue at Hollywood Forever is a Must See!

One of the treasures of the Los Angeles movie scene, nay Los Angeles culture in general, are the Cinespia screenings at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery. And at this point you’re probably thinking, “Movies in a graveyard? No, thank you.” But you’re wrong. It’s an amazing experience. The films are curated and well projected, there’s usually a cast or production member who’s on hand to introduce the film or take questions, and there’s always a lively crowd.

This year the summer Hollywood Forever Cinespia screenings are kicking off with Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Silence of the Lambs, and Singin’ In The Rain. Then they’re moving on to Mean Girls, ET: The Extra-terrestrial, To Catch A Thief, Goodfellas, Purple Rain and Raising Arizona.

The Hollywood Forever Cemetery is one of the key landmarks in Los Angeles. It is where a great many of the truly important filmmakers and celebrities are buried. The occupants include Cecil B DeMille, Deedee Ramone, Johnnie Ramone, Douglas Fairbanks, Mel Blanc, Peter Lorre, Jayne Mansfield, Bugsy Siegel, Vampira, and John Huston.

Cinespia and the Hollywood Forever Cemetery offer a great service to the greater Los Angeles area by making it possible for Angelinos from all walks of life to come witness these landmark films the way there were meant to be seen, on a large screen in front of a raucous crowd.

Tickets for all of the summer screenings can be purchased at cinespia.org. So far, they’re all still available, with (understandably) the exception of Purple Rain. The crowds are always excited for the movie so make sure to get there a bit early if you want a good spot.

When you attend Cinespia screenings bringing blankets, chairs, food, and drinks is encouraged. The films typically are also a fan affair, meaning everyone in the audience has already seen the films. If you’re looking for a calm, theatre-going experience, this is not for you. It many ways, you have to give yourself over to the crowd. You have to really just let what’s happening happen and go along for the ride.

Film lovers everywhere need to check out Cinespia at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery. It’s fun reasonably priced (free except for parking). It’s a singularly film-tastic, culturally chaotic experience every time. Come and be part of the glory, grandeur, and weirdness of LA.
